National Poetry Day 2010 will be on
Thursday 7th October and this year the theme is

 Why not put your pen to paper and join in our celebrations by entering our Poetry Competition?


Entry is Free

1st Prize under 16 yrs £25 in book-tokens

1st Prize over 16 yrs £25 in book-tokens


The Prize Winners and 10 runners-up will be notified by 21st September 2010 and will have their poems presented in a small booklet on National Poetry Day. They will also be invited to perform their poems at our Poetry Reading Event on Thursday 7th October.

You may submit any style of poetry up to a maximum of 20 lines

Closing Date 7th September 2010


Conditions of entry

1. The poems must be on the theme of Home and must be no longer than 20 lines in length.

2. Poems must be in English and must be the original work of the competitor.

3. Entrants may submit one poem only.

4. Poems can be typed or handwritten. A covering sheet should list the entrant's name, address, age and a contact telephone number.

5. The competition will be judged by “Just Poets” and 2 members of the Library Staff.

6. The Judges’ decision is final. No correspondence or discussion concerning the Judges’ decision will be entered into.

7. Copyright will remain with the winning Poets.

8. We regret that entries cannot be returned .
